Happy Birthday Owen

Sorry there are a ton of photos in this post. I have a hard time picking favorites.
Yes I am almost a month late on this post, but I'm finally getting around to it. Owen had a wonderful 1st birthday! Due to scheduling conflicts, and other family matters we weren't able to have one big party for him. So he got to have his birthday for 2 days. He had birthday cake and playing in conjunction with our niece Teagans baptism on his actual birthday. And a family BBQ and cake and presents with Chases family the next day.
I had spent the few days before his birthday baking like a mad woman. I think after all was said and done I had baked 72 cupcakes and 9 4" round cakes ( to make 3 smash cakes for him. 1 for my sisters house, 1 for grandma and grandpas house and one for the studio). I had decided that since we weren't having one big party I would just do a primary colors cake, and cupcakes. I think it turned out adorable (minus the bottom layers falling apart.) Owen didn't really want to touch his smash cakes when there were a lot of people around, but was more than willing to rip one apart when there were just a few of us around.
I made his little birthday shirt to match the primary colors cakes, and didn't have time to wash it before he wore it. That is why he has blue skin in some of the photos.
He got some really fun gifts, and has really enjoyed playing with them since.
It's crazy to think that he's already 1. We love our little guy and can't imagine our lives without him.

12 months

Our tiny boy hit his 12 month mark on May 14. He is growing slowly, but healthy none the less. We went in to see the urologist in April, and found out that his bad kidney is gone. They couldn't see it in the ultrasound. So we have been released from the care of the urologist, and don't have to see him again. Hooray!!!

1 year stats: 16 pounds 8 ounces, and 28 inches tall. He is finally on the growth chart for his height at right around the 5th percentile. The pediatrician isn't worried about him, and is happy that he's following the curve and growing how a tiny boy should. One day he'll catch up.

- loves to eat anything he can get his hands on, his favorites right now are pirates booty, black beans, and hot dogs

- has 3 teeth, two on the bottom and 1 on the top.

-can kneel on his knees when playing

-enjoys playing on mommy and daddys ipads

- loves his grandpa James, and always wants to see him if he is in the room

-Another new thing is Owen is sleeping on the floor. He started hating his crib and wasn't sleeping at night, so we put him on the floor to see if we could catch a break. He's doing better but still wakes up quite a few times each night.

He would not sit still for his photos and was climbing all over the chair and making himself rock. Here he is our little monkey!

Eating Breakfast

Not much eating happened this day! Owen doesn't fall asleep just anywhere so this was a shock for us. Poor thing had been sick and not sleeping at night, so he was just exhausted.

Easter 2011

We had a wonderful Easter! The easter bunny spoiled Owen, and brought him a new outfit, some bubbles, a few easter trucks, a bunny shaped bumble ball, and his first pair of converse. Owen didn't really care much about his basket, and only wanted to pull on the laces in his new shoes.

Owen loved all the plastic easter eggs that we gave him for his photos. He kept picking them up and banging them together, or putting them to his mouth and blowing on them.

We also gave him a chocolate bunny to enjoy in the studio. He would put the ears in his mouth for a few seconds, then pull them out and smack his lips together. I think he liked it. After all was said and done he was a pretty messy boy, and the back of the bunnies ears had a hole where he had ground his teeth into them.

11 months

11 months already! Look how big our little monkey is getting. He is learning so much every day and has quite the funny little personality. He sure can be sassy. Other things he's doing.

-Cruising around the furniture like crazy

-Eating everything in site, some of his favorites are black beans, gold fish crackers, and graham crackers

-Crawling on his knees finally

Napping

I left Owen with his grandma the other day, so I could go to the dry pack cannery. He refused to fall asleep while she was holding him. Instead he got down to play, was enjoying climbing in the swing, and fell asleep. This doesn't happen very often, he usually has to be swaddled up pretty tight and rocked to sleep. Guess he was exhausted from all the playing.

Snowboarding

A few weekends ago Chase and I were able to head up to Brighton for some snowboarding, or in my case some butt sliding. I hadn't been for over 2 years, and so I spent a lot of time falling on my behind. After listening to some of the ski instructors working with the little kids, I finally figured it out. If you don't look at your feet or the ground right in front of you, you don't fall. Go figure, it's kind of like driving and looking out into the horizon. We had a wonderful time being together, and only a few tears were shed. Thanks babe for the fun day, and thanks Grandma Vicki for watching Owen for us!
